Robo dead :( so time for a silhouette portrait?

Post by Carolyn » Sun Nov 24, 2013 12:59 pm

Just gone to use my Robo and it won't switch on :( tried changing the fuse, so not sure - could be the cable damage or machine gone. So I think this could be a sign to get a new one, as I think they cut thicker card now, although not 100% sure.

there seems to be a portrait and a cameo - the cameo is for 12 x 12 which is not for me - I will never cut anything that big - not for card making anyay. So think the portrait is best option - anyone got one - know anything about it ?

I don't know enough about these to help, Carolyn. I think I read somewhere that the portrait one wasn't so good but the Cameo is very good. May be mistaken though.

I've got a Silhouette SD and hope to sell it and get the Cameo. Apparently it is much quieter and I like the idea of being able to cut thicker stuff and the optical eye too.

I have had a scout around the internet and it appears cut the same thickness as the cameo, so am not quite sure. Where have you seen that it cuts thicker?

Carolyn - I have an original Robo here that is hardly used and I haven't touched for a few years so if you wanted to carry on would be happy to let it go - might be a short term fix I don't think I am ever going to get chance to sort it all out again

Probably what I am thinking about is that it has a more adjustable blade or at least that is whT I thought it meant. My little SD has been brilliant but the noise drives OH mad and one of the selling points of the Cameo is that it is quieter. I also like the idea of print and cut. Before I do anything though I will go to Graphtec in Wrexham and get them to demonstrate it for me.

the Portrait does print and cut too. Thanks for the offer Rachel - but have decided to go for it and it is on my Christmas list. I think (I hope) that it will cut through some thicker stuff than my old one - I will let you know.

With regard to noise this video says it isn't too bad:

it has cut glitter card

I like the idea of cutting glitter card and felt and material. I assume the Cameo will do everything the portrait does

I just looked at the video and the glitter card she is using seems to be the stuff where the glitter is embedded in the card.

The one card that the Cameo doesn't like, apparently, is card that is quite fibrous. They had a lot of trouble with the blades when they first came out but I should hope they have fixed that problem by now.
