Support English Orchards

Post by Carolyn » Fri Jan 08, 2010 6:25 pm

Just reading an article where they are encouraging you to support English suggests you seek out native varieties:
Coxs Orange Pippin, Gala, Early Windsor and leave behing the NZ Braeburn, US Pink lady and French Granny Smiths...

...have to say both Owen and I are enjoying apples this year and are munching our way through pounds of Gala

I have my own small orchard which are all English varities of apple, pear and cherry.

If we don't support our local growers we will lose what little commercial growers and our delicious brands of apples to the more tastless varieties from the EU and USA.
