Album Project - Squash Book

Jake did this clever squash book step by step for the birthday challenge, it makes a beautiful keepsake, and can be used as a card or a mini album....visit Jakes blog to see more of her cards.

You will need:
  • 3 pieces of 8” x 8” card (approx 20 x 20 cm
  • 2 pieces of 4” x 4” card (approx 10 x 10 cm)
  • 4 photos or stamped images
  • Rubber stamps
  • Patterned paper
  • DS tape
  • Ribbon

Take three 8 x 8 cm sheets of cardstock, fold in half and crease with a bone folder (now you have a score line half way), open up and fold the opposite direction.

Turnover and make one diagonal corner to corner fold and crease with a bone folder. You will have one score line from one corner to the other corner.

Repeat on other two sheets of cardstock. All diagonal fold lines should run from top right to bottom left.

The top and bottom squares should have the diagonal fold as a mountain, and the middle on has the diagonal fold as a valley. Each square will fold into a smaller square, by bringing in the diagonal fold corners to meet.

Cut two squares of patterned paper measuring 3.75“(9.5cm). Cut each square diagonally so you have four triangles and stick to the first and third ‘pages’ of the book. Stamp images into the corresponding triangles, or decorate as you wish.

Stamp your chosen images onto the centre page of the book

Trim and mount your photos to the desired size and embellish as required.

Place the first photo onto the top left hand corned of the first sheet.

the second photo onto the top left of the middle sheet .

Using glue/DS tape (I use a combination of both), stick all three of the sheets together as follows:

stick the top left hand square of the middle card over the bottom right hand square of the first card....

...and the top left of the third card over the bottom right hand square of the middle card

Now for the tricky bit – folding the book! On the first and third pages the diagonal score lines fold up into mountain folds, the diagonal score line on the middle section folds down into a valley fold. It is a little tricky to fold at first and for this reason I tend to fold the centre section first, but once you get the fold right squash the book down and make sure you use a bone folder to make the creases crisp.

Decorate two pieces of 4 x 4” card for the front and back covers and lay the ribbon across the back of the front cover only before you stick it down.

Bring the ribbon around from the back and tie in a bow at the front of the book.
